    Comprehensive Analysis

    1) "Knockoff" -- As to knockoff burberry

    knock·off
    Pronunciation: 'näk-"of
    Function: noun
: a copy that sells for less than the original; broadly : a copy or imitation of someone or something popular
    Pronunciation Symbols

A counterfeit is an imitation that is made usually with the intent to deceptively represent its content or origins. The word counterfeit most frequently describes forged currency or documents, but can also describe clothing, software, pharmaceuticals, watches, or any other manufactured item, especially when this results in patent infringement or trademark infringement.

This covers a wide range of consumer items, from outright fakes in the sense that they are non-functional lookalikes (e.g. prescription drugs, computer flash drives), functional but inferior items (Memory Sticks, blank videotapes) to fully functional items illegally manufactured without paying copyright fees (CDs, DVDs, computer software). In the latter case, there is often little or no attempt at disguising its origin as the end user will be aware that the counterfeit product will work at least as well (and sometimes better than) the original. The alternative term bootleg is more often used for this type of conterfeiting, where the user is fully aware of its illegal status.

By contrast, a knockoff item may imitate a well-known one, may be sold for a lower price, and may be of inferior quality, but there is usually no attempt to deceive the buyer or infringe upon brand names, patents, trademarks or copyrights. An example of a knockoff item is Dynacell batteries.

Burberry was founded in 1856 when 21-year-old Thomas Burberry, a former draper's apprentice, opened his own store in Basingstoke, Hampshire. By 1870 the business had established itself by focusing on the development of outdoors attire. In 1880 Thomas Burberry invented gabardine, a hardwearing, water-resistant, yet breathable fabric, in which the yarn is waterproofed before weaving. A patent was taken out for this in 1888.

In 1891 Thomas Burberry opened an emporium in the Haymarket, London, which still stands today and now contains the company's headquarters. Ten years later, the company was commissioned by the War Office to design a new service uniform for British officers. In 1904, the Burberry Equestrian Knight Logo was developed and registered as a trademark. They also became the outfitters for Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole, and Ernest Shackleton, who lead a 1914 expedition to cross Antarctica.
